hybris Summit 2014 – eCommerce for Telecom

Last week iQuest participated in the annual hybris Global Partner Summit, an event where one can find out more about the very latest e-commerce innovations and opportunities from our commerce partner hybris.

Our colleague, Adrian Marcu, was there as our Head of eCommerce and we had a Q&A session with him regarding some hot topics at the summit and, more specifically, about our focus on ecommerce for telecom.

Welcome back Adrian and please give us an update on hybris and what is hot at this moment in the eCommerce sphere?

Of course everybody was interested in how the new acquisition by SAP would influence their partnerships and, at least this year, there were only good things to hear about, such as the new market opportunities. Aside from that, they will continue to focus on certain markets like Telecom but they will also start to focus more on industries such as Financial Services or Manufacturing/Distribution. The integration of the online with the offline for the retail sector was again a hot topic.  On the gizmo side, the hybris labs area was again very interesting, showcasing new developments in the integration of hybris solutions with nfc, geo-fencing, google glass or IoT.

What did you see in hybris that made you believe you could be successful with this software in other industries than retail?

We work a lot in highly regulated environments in iQuest – telecommunications, life sciences, airlines. We needed a platform that is 1. Modern, 2. Very flexible in terms of integration, and 3. Stable/Mature.

Starting from our expertise in the Telecom field, what challenges are Telcos facing today? Can you and hybris help solve them?

The means of communication have been evolving at an incredible pace particularly since the iPhone revolution. IoT is coming… Telcos simply need to keep up this pace as they are not always the drivers behind this revolution. All of the Telcos need to move to technologies that really support Omni-Channel.

What will drive business opportunities in the Telecom industry?

These 3 things:

  • new devices and technologies that allow true omni-channel (from USSD to push notifications) – you need a proper sustainable and flexible platform for such things.
  • new services – we see many telcos moving into directions such as cloud, machine 2 machine, e-identity, payments
  • Changes within the organisational structure. Telcos have a very well defined structure, which is sometimes bureaucratic. Each department has its own KPIs (mobile presence – with their own KPIs, social – with their own KPIs) etc.

 How does hybris stand out from the crowd in the Telco industry?

hybris has the Telco Accelerator, which is very well suited for the industry, and this is a clear differentiator in the market. I saw it in the eyes of the customers when Ivano was doing the telco accelerator demo.

The second advantage, which is maybe harder to grasp and pitch to customers, is the architecture/technical design of the hybris platform itself.
